Self Muscle Release & Mobility

Updated: Jun 21, 2019

"Self Muscle Release" is a technique I use to give myself a deep tissue massage. It is something I picked up several years ago when I worked in physical therapy and I have found it to be very helpful when I have sore muscles. In this video I take you through "active" muscle releases which just means you are moving the muscle while applying pressure to it. Soft tissue release can help relieve sore muscles, address the nervous system (pain) and reduce joint stress.

I typically do these releases BEFORE my strength training workouts. I might also do these at the end of the day if I'm just feeling tight and sore.

Equipment needed: Lacrosse ball, Foam Roller, Optional: Peanut (2 lacrosse balls taped together) and a yoga wheel. I've included the links on where to buy the above equipment below.

Please feel free to ask questions on any of the included material or if you are unsure if something is right for you.

Equipment:

1.) Lacrosse Ball & Peanut

2.) Foam Roller

High Density roller:

Soft Roller:

3.) Yoga Wheel - I use the Basic Sized wheel. I also sometimes use the travel wheel (for travel and it's also nice a "starter" wheel)
